The script (Marcus Sauermann) of this Christmas story follows the childrens' book: Tomte Tummetott, a Swedish Christmas goblin with a red hat, stands guard over the sleeping humans and animals on a farm during the winter. He gives them strength and speaks to the animals about the upcoming spring. One night, Mikkel, the hungry fox, approaches the farm to get his feast. Will Tomte be able to stop him?

Fittingly for Astrid Lindgren's 100th birthday on November 14th ,2007, the film was released on DVD by Oetinger Kinderkino. It is the first Astrid Lindgren film that has ever been completely produced in Germany. The film was realised as a coproduction between OGGLIES Film Productions, a unit of the Oetinger publishing group, and Trikk17.
